Lewis Roca Welcomes Business Transactions Lawyer in Phoenix

PHOENIX (December 20, 2024) – Lewis Roca announced that Maria Morales Spelleri has joined the firm’s Business Transactions Practice Group as Of Counsel in Phoenix.

Spelleri’s practice focuses on public finance matters, with an emphasis on the issuance of tax-exempt bonds to fund capital projects involving significant institutional investments. She advises corporate trustees on both taxable and tax-exempt bonds, represents borrowers and lenders in negotiating complex financial and operational terms, and supports the financing of acquisitions, construction, renovations, equipment procurement, and refinancing for new or expanding capital projects.

With a robust public finance practice, Spelleri works closely with nonprofit organizations, public agencies, small manufacturers, and affordable housing developers to structure and finance impactful community projects. Her experience spans the development of affordable housing, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, shelters, and other nonprofit and commercial facilities. Her deep knowledge of municipal finance enables her to provide strategic guidance, helping clients navigate intricate regulatory requirements to achieve their project goals while maximizing public benefit.

Active in the community, Spelleri serves as a board member for Dignity Health, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.  She has also served as a board member for The Industrial Development Authority of the County of Maricopa; Valle del Sol, Inc.; Lifewell; Phoenix Residential Investment Development Effort; and Phoenix Housing Commission and has also served as a volunteer for the Latina Reading Program at Herrera Elementary School.

Spelleri earned her J.D. from Boston University School of Law, her MBA from Boston University Questrom School of Business, and her B.A. from San Jose State University.
