PHOENIX (December 13, 2023) – Lewis Roca is proud to announce that Steve Hart and Jacob Schellinger have been recognized by the Arizona Capitol Times as Rising Stars and Timeless Icons. These awards recognize their outstanding achievements and contributions to their practice and community.
Steve Hart, a partner in the firm's Phoenix office, has been honored as a "Timeless Icon." With over 38 years of experience, Hart is nationally acclaimed in Indian and gaming law, dedicated to representing tribes and tribal gaming commissions across the western United States. He provides strategic guidance on tribal-state compact negotiations, land into trust, and Indian lands determinations, and excels in corporate and government relations. His diverse practice encompasses licensing, real estate, project development, intellectual property, financial transactions, litigation, and general business law. Notably, Hart served as the Director of the Arizona Department of Gaming during the Jane Hull administration. Beyond his professional role, he actively engages with tribal business associations, is a published author, and is a frequent conference presenter.
Jacob Schellinger, an associate in Lewis Roca's Phoenix office, has been recognized as a "Rising Star.” Schellinger's practice focuses on advising tribal governments and entities on a wide range of Indian law and policy issues, including gaming, economic development, and issues related to Indian lands, among other things. Before joining Lewis Roca, Schellinger gained significant national Indian law and policy experience in Washington, DC by serving as Vice President of Government Relations for the National Congress of American Indians and before that as counsel for the Office of the Vice Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. Beyond his professional work, Schellinger remains involved in the community, participating in associations such as the Native American Bar Association of Arizona and the State Bar of Arizona's Indian Law Section.
The Arizona Capitol Times Rising Stars and Timeless Icons Awards are a testament to the exceptional talent recognized in various fields. This peer-nominated recognition highlights the remarkable contributions of individuals like Hart and Schellinger, who represent both the seasoned icons of experience and the dynamic rising stars of tomorrow.
