Lewis Roca Announces New Leadership in Nevada
LAS VEGAS (September 15, 2022) – Lewis Roca has appointed Karl F. Rutledge as the managing partner of its Nevada offices and Glenn J. Light as the Chair of the firm’s Commercial Gaming Industry Group. The lawyers in the firm’s Las Vegas and Reno offices provide counsel to local, national, and international businesses addressing gaming, real estate, corporate, litigation, appeals, intellectual property, labor and employment, and regulatory and government issues.
Rutledge assumes this new regional leadership role in Nevada succeeding Joel D. Henriod who served as managing partner of the firm’s Las Vegas office for the last five years. Rutledge, who practices in the areas of commercial gaming with an emphasis on eSports, fantasy sports, sports betting, and promotional marketing, joined the firm as an Associate more than 15 years ago. He is the former Chair of the firm’s Commercial Gaming Industry Group which he served in this role since 2017 increasing the firm’s reputation and representation of some of the world’s most recognized commercial gaming brands.
Active in the community, Rutledge is a member of the Executive Committee of the Gaming Law Section of the State Bar of Nevada and is immediate past Chair of the Gaming Law Committee of the American Bar Association Business Law Section. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, providing classes on gaming industry regulation. Rutledge has been recognized by Chambers USA for gaming and licensing in the nationwide category since 2019 and was named to Vegas Inc.’s “40 Under 40” for 2019 and Emerging Leaders of Gaming “40 Under 40” 2019–2020 Class by Global Gaming Magazine. The Best Lawyers in America® has listed Rutledge in the area of gaming law since 2012 and he was recognized as “Lawyer of the Year” in 2021.
Light succeeds Rutledge as Chair of the firm’s Commercial Gaming Industry Group. In this role, Light will continue to provide counsel on nearly every aspect of commercial gaming transactions, including corporate structure, financing, and due diligence. He also advises individuals, operators, manufacturers, distributors, and service providers through the multi-jurisdictional licensing process – from advising clients on how to best structure operations from a licensing standpoint to working with the regulators to obtain the necessary licences.
Light is an adjunct professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, addressing gaming industry regulation. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the category of gaming law since 2019 and was recognized as “Lawyer of the Year” in gaming for 2022. He has also been recognized by Chamber USA for Gaming & Licensing since 2020 and has been recognized as a Mountain States Super Lawyer in gaming since 2012.
