Charles Receives Pro Bono Award for Southern Arizona

TUCSON – Southern Arizona Legal Aid Volunteer Lawyers Program (VLP) announced that Rob Charles, a partner in the Tucson office of Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP, is recipient of its Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney of the Month Award.

Charles assists VLP clients with bankruptcy, real property and mortgage foreclosure matters. He also is a frequent participant in the program’s Bankruptcy Reaffirmation Clinic, supervising law students meeting with unrepresented clients at reaffirmation hearings in Bankruptcy Court.

The Pro Bono Attorney of the Month Award honors only 12 attorneys annually of the 1,100 lawyers that provide service with Volunteer Lawyers Program, according to Southern Arizona Legal Aid.

“Rob Charles is consistently one of our firm’s pro bono superstars, he finds ways to serve quietly with no fanfare, no spotlights,” said Dan Waite, chair of the Pro Bono Committee at Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie. “We are happy to see others are recognizing Rob’s good works.”

Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie recently recognized Charles during the firm’s annual John P. Frank Pro Bono Awards. The awards honor the late John P. Frank of legacy firm Lewis and Roca, whose pro bono representation of Ernesto Miranda before the U.S. Supreme Court led to the landmark ruling in 1966.

“Service to the community through pro bono representation is an important part of our firm’s heritage,” added Waite.

In announcing the award, Southern Arizona Legal Aid cited the work Charles completed to assist a client with resolving a real property matter involving a trustee sale and lawsuit in Superior Court:

“With Rob’s help, the parties were able to negotiate a settlement that resulted in a monetary judgment for the client and his family. The VLP is grateful for Rob’s support of the program and his continued friendship.”

Charles is a leader in the firm’s Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights team, practicing throughout Arizona and Nevada. He represents clients in business bankruptcy cases, commercial lawsuits and business transactions.
